Reading- Learners
Of the reading material on students (learners) the main one that jumped out at me was the material on "When Blogging Goes Bad: A Cautionary Tale About Blogs, Email Lists, Discussion, and Interaction by Steven D. Krause. There were some great things that I learned from this reading like that the term "blog" comes from the adaptation of the term "web log" which sounds like something everyone should know but I would bet that many people could not define what blog really means.
It discussed that blogging is a new form of journalism and that many teachers are using blogs as a tool for classrooms. It also spoke about writing classes specifically and that the teachers "seem to be using blog spaces as places to facilitate dynamic and interactive writing experiences." It stated that students learn that posted content would be read by not only the teacher or professor but also by other students in the class and allowing feedback.
Krause wrote about a bad experience in a class about using blogs. The assignment was not real clear but they were mainly told to write on a blog site and give feedback to others. Krause noticed that there were many differences in the blogs with length, content, and their wasn't much feedback between peers. Krause then stated that this was a failed expereimnet.
I disagree with Krause on this as their are so many different people in this world and the dynamics of a classroom have so many different mindsets. There may be some individuals that make it a hobby to write so blogging comes easy to them and they may be an introvert that is shy around people but can write an amazing blogpost. On the other side, there may be some students who are extroverts and are great with crowds of people but have a difficult time articulating there thoughts on paper or in this case, a blog.
