Teachnology Project

Note: I am enjoying how much of the course is conducted here on the blog. So I've decided to post the course project descriptions here.

Project 1: Teachnology Statement
Create a concise, compelling statement that communicates your values and goals related to teaching with and the teaching of technology

In this project you will create two deliverables:

1) a single page text version of a teachnology statement that speaks to at least two important audiences: 1) your professional peers and supervisors, and 2) your students, mentees, or clients.

The statement should offer detail about your values and goals for teaching WITH and the teaching OF technology in the educational contexts in which you work.

The textual version will be suitable for your professional portfolio, for teaching-related job applications, for inclusion on a course website, etc.

2) a remixed version of your teachnology statement that incorporates technology – transforming the text with audio, visual elements, interaction – in a manner that demonstrates as well as explains your goals and values.

The goal of the remixed version is to extend the audience for your teachnology statement to include non-specialists, interested professionals from outside your own field, etc. The technologies you use are up to you, as is the format and design of your re-mixed version. But keep the spirit of the original textual version of your teachnology statement intact: brief and compelling.

Research for this Project
Your inquiry process for this project will involve reflecting on the readings we have completed as well as your own previous experience.  However, you may need to do some work to locate and/or create visual representations of your information for the remix. In class, we’ll look at some samples.

What You Produce for this Project
1. A draft list of values & goals created in class on Monday June 13 (in Eli, on Monday)
2. Reviews of others’ values & goals lists (in Eli, on Monday)
3. A draft teachnology statement (in Eli, on Tuesday)
4. Reviews of others’ teachnology statements (in Eli, on Tuesday)
5. Your one-page text version, revised (on the AL881 blog)
6. A remix draft (for review, in July, review will be in Eli)
7. Your final remixed version (for presentation during our final symposium).

Requirements for the Remix Assignment
The project itself should be roughly parallel in length/complexity to a one-page text, though the format can obviously vary. You must should cite external sources and give credit to images or sound that you borrow, as appropriate, using a style format of your choice. If you have questions about how best to do this, please ask me!
